Valerian - A natural remedy for insomnia and anxiety? |
 |
More and more people are realising Valerian's qualities as a night time aid for relaxation. The use of valerian for insomnia, anxiety and nervous conditions has been common for many centuries. |
Valerian root contains many different constituents, including volatile oils that appear to contribute to the sedating properties of the herb. Central nervous system sedation is regulated by receptors in the brain known as GABA-A receptors. |
According to test tube studies, valerian may weakly bind to these receptors to exert a sedating action. This might explain why valerian may help some people deal with stress more effectively. |
Valerian may also be an effective treatment for people with mild to moderately severe insomnia. Generally, valerian makes sleep more restful as well as making the transition to sleep easier. |

Improve your digestive health with Slippery Elm |
 |
Slippery Elm acts as a demulcent and may offer benefits for various gastro-intestinal complaints such as indigestion, gastritis, colitis and diarrhoea. |
The mucilage of slippery elm, found in the inner bark, gives it the soothing effect for which it is known. |
In people with heartburn, the mucilage appears to act as a barrier against the damaging effects of acid on the oesophagus. |
It may also have an anti-inflammatory effect locally in the stomach and intestines. This soothing effect may also extend to the throat. |
Enjoy 10% off Bio Health Slippery Elm until 14th March 2007. |
