Each enteric coated Serrapeptase vegecap contains 30mg of serratia peptidase enzyme preparation providing 60,000u of activity. This powerful enzyme helps support and maintain healthy fluid levels in the body, healthy joints, muscles and helps support and maintain cardiovascular health.
Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the non-pathogenic bacteria Serratia species. Serrapeptase has been used as a nutritional supplement in Europe and Asia for nearly three decades.
Serrapeptase may help to support and maintain muscle and joint health and promote normal inflammatory processes within the body. Serrapeptase may also help sustain and support cardiovascular health and proper arterial health.
Serrapeptase, also known as Serratia Peptidase, is a proteolytic (breaking down) enzyme. When consumed in unprotected tablets/caplets or capsules, the enzyme is destroyed by acid in the stomach. However, Serrapeptase`s special enteric-coated caplets enable the enzyme to pass through the stomach unchanged, and be absorbed in the intestine.
What`s an Enteric Coating?
An enteric coating is like a barrier applied to oral tablets/caplets and capsules which controls the location in the digestive system where it is absorbed. Enteric refers to the small intestine, therefore enteric coatings prevent release of medicinal ingredient (Serrapeptase) before it reaches the small intestine. For example, it will not dissolve in the acidic juices of the stomach (pH ~3), but in the alkaline (pH 7-9) environment present in the small intestine. To obtain a desired action or avoid the side effects enteric coating is used in drugs that have an irritant effect on the stomach (Aspirin), or are acid-unstable (Serrappetase). Cellulose and algae complex is used for enteric coating of Serrapeptase.
Phthalate Free Enteric Coating
Since 2009, Enerex have been using Phthalate free enteric coating. The new coating is vegetarian and is sourced from seaweed/algae.
This product is both vegan and vegetarian since the capsule, and its excipients are all vegetarian sourced. The enzyme cannot be classified as vegetarian or non vegetarian as enzymes are enzymes which are reproduced in laboratories and non synthetic. Enzymes are made from Amino Acids and are a class of proteins. Just like bacteria, they are not vegetables nor animals. They are in a class by themselves.
