Each enteric coated Serrapeptase capsule contains 45mg of Serratia Peptidase Enzyme providing 90,000u of activity. The level of enzyme activity in Serrapeptase Rx is much higher than most other products. Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the non-pathogenic bacteria Serratia species. Serrapeptase has been used as a nutritional supplement in Europe and Asia for nearly three decades.

Serrapeptase, also known as Serratia Peptidase, is a proteolytic (breaking down) enzyme. When consumed in unprotected tablets/caplets or capsules, the enzyme is destroyed by acid in the stomach. However, Serrapeptase`s special enteric-coated capsules enable the enzyme to pass through the stomach unchanged, and be absorbed in the intestine.
What`s an Enteric Coating?
An enteric coating is like a barrier applied to oral capsules which controls the location in the digestive system where it is absorbed. Enteric refers to the small intestine, therefore enteric coatings prevent release of medicinal ingredient (Serrapeptase) before it reaches the small intestine. For example, it will not dissolve in the acidic juices of the stomach (pH ~3), but in the alkaline (pH 7-9) environment present in the small intestine. To obtain a desired action or avoid the side effects enteric coating is used in drugs that have an irritant effect on the stomach (Aspirin), or are acid-unstable (Serrappetase). Cellulose and algae complex is used for enteric coating of Serrapeptase.
