Green Origins Organic Maqui Berry - Freeze Dried is packed with essential vitamins, dietary fibre, protein, carbohydrate, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Maqui has one of the highest antioxidant values of any fruit.
For centuries the Mapuche people, who are native to the area where Maqui grows, have put this remarkable fruit at the core of their diet and ceremonial practice. Now, thanks to modern processing methods, Maqui is available globally. Although it is regarded as a wide-spectrum superfood, its nutritional profile makes it popular with sportspeople and those who lead active lifestyles.
Maqui berry`s signature nutritional component is its antioxidant compounds. However, it also provides carbohydrate, protein, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium. Its vitamin content includes the antioxidant Vitamin C, plus Vitamin A and Vitamin E. It has a significant dietary fibre content, creating a comprehensive, all-round food.
Rainforest Foods Green Origins raw Maqui berry is nurtured and harvested sustainably in Chile by people from the Mapuche tribe. Their method involves beating the flexible branches to harvest the fruit. They use natural fertilising methods post-harvest. Maqui berry can spoil rapidly, so the fruit is immediately transported to a local production plant, where it is freeze-dried. This involves rapid freezing, then warming to vaporise the frozen water. The freeze-dried fruit is then milled to powder and packed for export.
Certified by the Soil Association, one of a handful of organic certification bodies in the UK. These are regulated in their turn by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The role of the Soil Association is to ensure that all foods sold as organic are definably so. It does this by auditing every stage of the supply chain, through growth, export and processing. Soil Association certification – indicated by the Soil Association logo and the EU organic leaf symbol on our packaging – is a guarantee that our customers are purchasing an organic product. All organically-certified products must also carry a certification code on their packaging. For UK companies such as Rainforest Foods this has the format GB-ORG-XX, XX indicating the certifying body. If this is not present, a product is not organic. The Soil Association code on our products is GB-ORG-05.
