The Mooncup is available in two models. Model A measures 46mm in diameter and 50mm in length. Model B measures 43 mm in diameter ad 50mm in length.

Both models have a pull stem 21mm long, which you can trim to the length that is right for you.

Please ensure that you select the correct model. For hygiene reasons we cannot exchange Mooncups once they have been dispatched.

Mooncup - A healthy alternative to tampons

The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup around two inches long and made from soft silicone rubber. It is worn internally like a tampon but collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing. Unlike tampons the Mooncup is not a disposable product, so you only need to buy one.

The Mooncup will hold 30ml of fluid, which is roughly one third of the average total produced each period. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls allowing your menstrual fluid to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour. You will probably find that you need to empty your Mooncup less frequently than you currently replace towels or tampons.

Why is mooncup better for you and the environment?

The Mooncup menstrual cup contains no bleaches, deodorisers or absorbency gels. It does not interfere with your healthy vaginal environment, nor has it been associated with toxic shock syndrome.

The smooth surface of the Mooncup allows the mucus membranes of your vaginal wall to continue their essential cleansing and protective functions. The Mooncup does not absorb your body's natural defence mechanisms and will not deposit fibres in your vaginal wall.

For your safety the Mooncup is made from a special medical grade non-allergic silicone. Silicone is derived from silica which is one of the most abundant minerals on earth.

It will not cause irritation and is suitable for women with sensitive skin, thrush, eczema or an allergy.

The Mooncup can be cleaned in the same way as baby equipment: with sterilising fluid, or by boiling for five minutes in an open pan of water.

Unlike pads and tampons the Mooncup menstrual cup is reusable, eliminating the need to carry bulky spares. With proper care your Mooncup will last for several years.

Imagine the towels and tampons that you will be disposing of in landfill sites during those years!

How easy is it to use the Mooncup menstrual cup?

Correctly inserted, the Mooncup is so comfortable that you will forget it exists. It may take a little practice at first as you need to find the angle and position that is right for you.

Once you have perfected it you will be amazed at how simple the Mooncup is to use. You will need to empty, rinse or wipe and reinsert your Mooncup every four to eight hours depending on your flow. The fluid remains inside the cup, and the process is not messy or uncomfortable.

The Mooncup can safely be used overnight and is great for all sports, swimming and travelling.

Question:

Q.

Can the Mooncup be safely used with a Coil (IUD)?

A.

There should be no problem with an IUD (coil). Many women have used the 2 together with no problems. Its a good idea to ask your GP/clinic if they can trim the IUD strings to keep them short. You may also like to check your IUD strings periodically to make sure it hasn't been dislodged. If you have any queries you should check with your GP/clinic.

Q.

I'm 17 and am intrested in the mooncup...it sounds really eco friendly and seems a good idea...but isn't it messy to remove it?

A.

The Mooncup forms a seal with the walls of your vagina, so any blood flow is captured in the cup and removing usually means a minimum of mess. The cup should be rinsed once emptied and before replacing it. And boiled between periods.

Q.

I have always suffered with thrush and I find that using the diaphragm contraceptive cap makes this worse. Do you think that the Mooncup will aggravate the thrush too?

A.

Women who have suffered from thrush with tampons have reported an improvement with the Mooncup. The diaphragm is made from latex rubber, and many women have an allergy to latex, even a minor allergy, which may have contributed towards the infections. The Mooncup can be boiled between periods or soaked in sterilising solution to keep it clean. The most important way to prevent infection is to wash your hand before inserting or removing your Mooncup (this applies to tampons too!).

Q.

I have very heavy periods, will mooncup be suitable for me?

A.

Yes, the Mooncup works very well with heavy periods. It holds 30mls of menstrual blood, approximately 3 times more than a tampon or sanitary towel. This means you will need to attend to your mooncup less often than when wearing conventional sanitary protection.

Q.

As the menstrual blood is just collected rather than absorbed, what would happen if you were to go upside down or lay down with your pelvis raised above your body such as doing sports or other activities?

A.

The Mooncup is suitable for night-time use and all forms of sports so there is no need for concern in the doing these activities. Using the Mooncup as a collective device will not create any additional risk than these kind of activities may be associated with when you are menstruating. There is an ongoing debate regarding whether or not it is appropriate for women to adopt any inverted postures during menstruation, for instance shoulder stands in yoga are considered by some to alleviative menstrual symptoms during a period, whilst others say that this posture should not be done during menstruation because of the potential for retrograde flow (back flow).

Q.

How old do you have to be to use the Mooncup? My daughter is 11yrs old. is this too young?

A.

Young girls are physically able to use the Mooncup. It is possible to use the Mooncup from the very first period as our bodies are designed to give birth to full size babies at this time. The more confident that your daughter is about her body the easier it will be for her. As with tampons, it will require practice at first. She may like to use a lubricant such as KY Jelly (not petroleum jelly) to make insertion easier to begin with.

Q.

Is it possible/comfortable/safe to have penetrative sex whilst using a mooncup?

A.

We would not advise you have intercourse while your Mooncup is in place.

The Mooncup has been simple to adapt to and has proved very comfortable to wear! With a little time I learned to trust its reliability and I can now pretty much forget about it for a good five hours or so..something I can't do with tampons/towels. I have been singing it's praises to my friends so hope they will invest and it feels good to lessen my impact, even a tiny bit, on those landfill sites!

This is a fantastic product!! It took me a couple of months to get used to inserting it correctly, but now I wouldn't be without it! I used to have to use tampons and sanitary towels and change both every two hours. Now I use my mooncup and only need empty it three times a day and I'm helping the environment. It's given me freedom and confidence to do as I please during my period. I just wish I'd discovered it years ago!!

Brilliant product. I wish I'd had one always. Tampons gave me thrush, towels made be sore an were smelly. The mooncup is just wonderful. Once I removed the stem it was completely comfortable. Getting it in and out might not be easy for everyone. But that's my only reservation. I love not having to buy, remember to carry around, and dispose of tampons/towels. Once you have your mooncup when your period starts, you have what you need to see you through.

My periods are extremely heavy and before I had a mooncup I had accidents every night and in the day, which is really embarrasing, whether I wore pads or tampax and sometimes both! My firend told me about the mooncup and at first I wasn't convinced but thought 'what the hell, i'll give it a go'. I've had nothing since using my mooncup. I'm very happy with it and its extremely easy to use. I guess some people might need to get use to it. Oh the money I'm saving is very nice too :) Only one problem I lost the cotten bag it comes with so keep yours safe!

A brilliant product! Just wish I had found it earlier! I have very heavy periods and used to use tampons and towels, having to change very frequently throughout the day. But now after practising how to insert the mooncup properly, I only need to empty it every 5 - 6 hrs! There is no need for towels or unpleasant odours. Very hygenic and will save me money! Only wish I had found the Mooncup a long time ago!

Wish I'd known about the moon cup years ago! I've binned my big pants, no long wear my jeans for the whole of my period, even sleep in the nude (which confuses my husband), I can get changed in the communal area at the gym and still use the sauna and hot-tub without feeling self-conscious. As my periods are frequent (every three weeks) I no long feel that I'm out of action during them and have reclaimed a third of my life. I recently went abroad on holiday and just took my mooncup instead of a bagful of towels and tampax. I played tennis and squash, swam in the sea and even went for a full turkish massage. I love the freedom that the mooncup has given me and am even telling total strangers about it aswell as all my friends and family.

I hate towels and never seem to have tampons in the right bag at the right time. This was great as soon as your period starts you can forget about worrying what bag you take out with you. Very comfortable and you know immediatley it needs emptying. I have recommended it to lots of people.

hello to all mooncup users. aren't they great!? i couldn't believe how quickly mine came through the post and it was so nicely packaged. it seems silly but i was excited to try it out for the first time. it was very simple although a tip is to use lubrication on yourself and not on the cup otherwise the situation can get a bit slippery. hehe. so all in all i am very impressed. i only wish i had found this when i started all those years ago (ok only 6or7). but it would have saved the embarassment of going round the supermarket with my mother and getting her to put sanitry items in the trolley for me. it has only been in the past year or so that i have gained the confidence to go and buy tampons etc myself! even now i have never been entirely happy with tampons/ they can make you so dry and they seem to work and then they will let you down so you have a worrying moment whilst out shoppinng when you wonder if people can see a big red patch on the bum of your apparel. all i can say is thankyou, it is one less thing i have to worry about! I have been using my Mooncups for over 2 years now. They are a fabulous item & not only have they made it easier to cope with periods for me, they also seem to have had the wonderful effect that (since stopping using tampons & towels) my period pains are less, my mood swings don't seem to be as bad & I don't get thrush anymore!! Yes, I did say Mooncups because after having just the 1 for a year I found it easier to have a second so I could easily remove & replace in those situations where I couldn't get to a tap easily to wash them out (yes, you can just wipe with a tissue but I prefer to wash each time). Since they 'paid for themselves' within the first 6 months I didn't feel like I was wasting money either.

I admit it, I was VERY unsure when my best friend told me about Mooncups! Sounded rather yuck! And it can be lol. I'm one of these women who cant get on with tampax, HATE THEM!! So to say I ordered one with trepidation was an understatement. It arrived post haste (thank you) and in time for me to have a play!!! And you DO need time to try it. Talk about weird and wonderful positions trying to find the right one, to get it in comfortably lol. I found sitting on the loo the most comfortable. When it went in correctly, sheer bliss, didn't know it was there!!!!! HEAVEN! Yes they do, occasionally, make some noise when being put in and taken out, and if you've not twisted it, you can suddenly feel a pop inside as it works its way undone. Weird, but ok. I've told/emailed all my friends about it, and have to give them a review now I've used it. It will be glowing! No one has heard of Mooncups, including me, but thats going to change in my circle of girl friends. Cant wait for my next period now!!! And thats saying something!

What a brilliant invention. I have just discovered the Mooncup. I did a lot of research first before buying the product as I was nervous regarding the insertion and removal! I have had no difficulties at all, but you do need to be relaxed and comfortable with your body. No more smell and carrying half of the bathroom cabinet around with you always, no getting caught short while out and about. Good for your body, the environment and your purse. Moon Cups are great! You can't feel it. There's nothing dangling down. It doesn't budge when you cough. You're not sitting in gunge all day. You're not risking your health with a bleached product soaking away fluid and leaving tissue inside you. It is messy but you get the hang of it. They could make a wider one. They can leak during exercise.

Wow! Totally fab product. It's surprisingly easy to use, is better for the environment, is cheaper than using towels or tampons, it doesn't leak or smell and you really can't feel you're wearing it at all. I feel so much more comfortable "down there" during my period than I ever did with tampons or towels and my periods are so much less painful. I always had to take painkillers at that time of the month before but since using the Mooncup I have had totally painfree periods. Amazing!

Brilliant!!! Cut off the stem, practice a few times, before your period, with the inserting and removing, and you won't look back. Is it messy? A little bit, but your menstrual fluid is not 'dirty', so it's not a problem. I haven't had any leakage problems at all, as I make sure it's fitted properly.

Anyone who doesn't have it yet - get it!! Yes, it takes a bit of practice and yes, when you think about it too much it might be a bit gross for some, and it might be a bit of a hassle and take a bit longer than just change pads or tampons. But all the good that comes with it really makes it worth it all! I've only used it during one period so far, but I'm in love with it already. I decided to try it as I bleed quite a lot during the first few days which makes me feel uncomfortable - I always get the feeling it's leaking, and sometimes it does - and I sleep quite bad as well. I also swim a lot, but as I don't find it very hygenic while I have my period, I've always stopped going for nearly a week every month. That's all changed! I slept so much better using the moon cup and no worries whatsoever to go swimming! No leaks, less blotyness and - actually - less pain. I did still have some cramps but they were definitely less frequent and didn't last very long at all. I cut the stem of comletely after just one day which made it fit perfectly but still very easy to remove. It might not suit everyone, but it's definitely worth a try! No more worries about sunshine holidays, flights or long journeys!!

I'm actually buying another one because I lost the first (do not ask me how that happened!?). It was great! Comfortable and good for the enviroment, and I really hated the thought of all the chemicals they put into tampons. The only difficulty I found was in public toilets where the sink is outside the cubicle, as I kinda wanted to wash it out each time. Disabled toilets helped a lot!

I have used a Mooncup for around 5 years now, I suffer from hypermenorrhagia meaning I have super-heavy and long periods. Using the most absorbant tampons and pads I would constantly leak even when changing every 30 minutes and they would give me constant vaginal infections because of their affect on vaginal health. Using a menstrual cup I never leak and haven't had an infection in all the time using my Mooncup, it's fantastic! They can be left in for up to 12 hours without leaking or risk, this includes before your period, light and heavy flows, at night and for sports like swimming they are perfect. They last for up to 10 years so they are a huge saving on your purse and on the environment. They are totally comfortable and convenient, you can try them yourself as they have money back guarantee so you don't risk loosing money if you give them a try. I recomend these to everyone! They aren't messy, they don't cause bladder infections, they aren't linked to TSS or anyother tampon-related health problem (endomentriosis, cancer, infertility, vaginal infections - see dioxin/bleaching of tampons).

No more pain! I suffer from endometriosis and was using SUPERPLUS EXTRA tampons WITH nigh time towels, and still changing every 1/2 hour, so still have to empty the Mooncup more than most. Imagine the space in my handbag now, and the money I save each month! The strange thing is though, that even towards the end of my 10 day period and I only needed the tampons, when replaced with the Mooncup, I somehow felt less congested. BUT, the most wonderful and totally unexpected bonus was the fact that I no longer needed to take copious quantities of painkillers... my life was suddenly virtually pain free, no longer did friends think I was a junkie! Childbirth was easier than my previous periods, and that was a posterior presentation! Another bonus they never tell you about... are you about to go on holidays and are worried you will have to open your suitcase in front of friends for customs? Wear the cup for the journey, even if you haven't started, and avoid the problem; also, you no longer have to advertise your period by having to take your bag to the poolside loo. I only wish I'd known about it sooner, why don't the water boards and councils sell them cheap, or at least advertise them?

Ordered after seeing online from searching for things to make my life easier, as a women going on a back packing holiday & as the previous comment, I wish I had found this years ago. It made life a lot simpler, a lot less trash to deal with. Very easy to use, I too cut the whole of the tail off pretty much straight away & totally recommend it.

Absolutely amazing! A little daunting at first, perhaps - but a revolution in the feminine hygiene world! I will never use tampons/pads again. Sure it will become very popular!!
