About 5-hydroxy-tryptophan (5HTP) and Serotonin

The neurotransmitter, 5-hydroxy-tryptophan (5HTP) is a compound created in the body which is used to regulate serotonin levels in brain and central nervous system. 5HTP is the less well known cousin of serotonin (5HT). 5HTP can help maintain a balanced outlook and may help support healthy weight management and sleep patterns.

Dosage Guide:

Adults: Take 1 capsule preferably before bed, with a carbohydrate snack.

Children over 8 years: Take 1 capsule every alternate day, preferably before bed, with a carbohydrate snack.

Contraindication:

Not advisable if pregnant or taking fenfluramin.

Can cause drowsiness; do not drive or operate machinery if affected.

In a very few cases gastro-intestinal discomfort can occur, which usually disappears by reducing the intake.

Not to be used when taking MAO inhibitors, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), or other anti-depressant medications. It should also not be used by individuals taking any of the category of medications known as "triptans".
