Ethique Professor Curl Solid Shampoo for Curly Hair - 108g
Ethique Professor Curl Solid Shampoo for Curly Hair is specially formulated in line with curl care principles. Professor Curl is a pH-balanced, solid shampoo bar that gently cleanses without drying out your curls.
It is made with a nourishing blend of ingredients like shea butter, betaine (from sugar beets) and cocoa butter and will help promote soft hair and defined curls.
You won't find any sulfates, silicones, waxes, or drying alcohols in this dreamy little bar. The solid shampoo, equivalent to three bottles of salon-quality goodness, lathers like a liquid shampoo for fresh, bouncy curls. Professor Curl Solid Shampoo has an uplifting aroma of coconut and lemongrass.
Each bar is the same as three bottles of liquid shampoo and at least 80 washes.

Great shampoo for curly hair
Bought this for my daughter who suffers from a sensitive scalp. Hasn't irritated her scalp - a massive plus and enhances her curls naturally without need for additional styling products.
It's easy. First, wet your hair and the bar. Slide the bar from root to tip 3 or 4 times. Put the bar down and lather the shampoo into your hair - it will foam! Rinse and follow with conditioner if required.
Are Ethique products suitable for curly hair?
You're in luck! Ethique make shampoo and conditioner suitable for a wide range of hair types, including bars designed especially for curly hair.
Most curly hair needs a different approach to washing than straighter hair.
Co-washing is simply using conditioner to wash your hair instead of traditional shampoo. It has become more and more popular with those who have curly hair.
Some shampoos can dry hair and so many people, particularly those with curly hair, only use conditioner. It might sound counter-intuitive but despite the marketing messaging telling you the opposite, you don't actually need bubbles to clean.
Conditioners work like shampoos to remove oil and dirt but are less efficient. They dry hair out less (and don't produce lather). The emulsifiers found in conditioners bind to oil on your scalp and hair shaft and disappear down the drain when you rinse off.
Why is co-washing good for curly hair?
Co-washing curly hair maintains moisture and helps to stop dry and frizzy curls. Regular shampoo works by over-stripping the hair of its natural oils. By not washing hair with these products, the scalp's natural oils have the chance to condition the scalp and hair.
How do you use Curliosity as a co-wash?
Co-washing isn't as simple as it might sound, the technique is just as important as the conditioner.
Saturate your hair (the wetter the better!)
Grab your Curliosity co-wash and wet it
Slide Curliosity from root to tip 5-7 times, until you feel there is enough product in your hair
Put the bar down, then massage your scalp really well, to ensure you remove old dirt and oil.
Rinse with warm water and you are done! You can condition as you would normally too if you prefer
Curliosity doubles as a leave-in conditioner too.
How do you look after Ethique solid bars?
Use it, drain it, dry it! Looking after your Ethique bars will ensure they last longer and are easier to use. The most important thing is to keep them dry in between uses.
If left damp, the mush starts to set in and not only will you end up using far more than you need, there'll be residue on your soap dish and the bars will start to get too slippery to handle!
Get the storage right! Try to find a spot in your shower that's well away from the steam, or even store them out of the shower completely. Choose a storage container that will let the water drain away and air circulate like the Ethique Aqua In-Shower Container. Multi-purpose soap-saver bags make a fantastic addition to your plastic-free bathroom too! Use your body bar in the bag for extra exfoliation and lather, then hang it up to dry. The fabric will keep the bar contained while absorbing and expelling moisture.
What should you do when your Ethique solid bars get too small to use?
Saver bags are the ideal solution when you're getting to the end of your Ethique bar with the added bonus that they often provide a bit of exfoliation too. Great for body washes and face cleansers!
If you have a collection of pieces from the same type of bar, you can simply squish them all together in the palm of your hand to make a soap ball. Alternatively, press together firmly with your new bar when showering and as you use it, the smaller piece will eventually mould smoothly into the new one. Easy!
How does switching from bottle to bar save water?
Switching from bottle to bar not only ditches plastic but also saves water.
Plastic manufacturing uses vast quantities of water, plus an average shampoo or body wash can be up to 80% water and conditioner up to 95%!
Ethique removed water and plastic bottles in favour of packaging functional ingredients in bar form. Their bars are highly-concentrated, so you add the water. It doesn’t make sense to pay for water, package it in plastic bottles and use harsh chemicals to preserve it, when there is water in your shower already.
The super-concentration means that one Ethique shampoo bar is the same as three 350ml bottles of liquid shampoo. A conditioner bar is the same as five 350ml bottles!
Switching to beauty bars means you're saving plastic bottles from going to landfill and saving the water it would take to make them in the first place. Win-win!
Do Ethique products contain palm oil?
All Ethique products are 100% palm oil free and they’ve got the accreditation to prove it. Certification from the Orangutan Alliance confirms that no traces of palm oil or its derivatives are in any Ethique products or their supply chain.
Is Ethique packaging home-compostable?
Yes! All Ethique packaging is free from laminates and plastic, which means they can go straight into the home compost and will disappear in a matter of months.
Their boxes are made in New Zealand from PEFC-certified paper stock from sustainably-sourced forestry.
What charities does Ethique support?
Ethique have worked with more than 270 charitable organisations worldwide so far. They donate 2% of sales to charitable causes and work with partners who share their belief that they can make a difference.
They sponsor animals, promote long-term direct relationships and back community organisations in New Zealand (their home) and around the world.
Ethique adopt animals from organisations, including the incredible Orangutan Project, International Animal Rescue, International Tiger Project and WWF Australia. Their monthly donations contribute to their care and enable their rescuers to protect more animals like them.
They provide ongoing support to organisations such as Wildlife Warriors, HUHA, Rainforest Trust, Project Blue, Virunga National Park, Coral Vita, Ecologi, Oxfam and City Mission New Zealand, as well as supporting smaller local endeavours from beach clean-up events to school group initiatives.
How are Ethique climate positive?
Ethique are officially climate positive. As of March 2021, they are proud to be able to say that they offset 120% of their carbon emissions.
Their carbon footprint is independently measured every year by EKOS and then Ethique work with various organisations such as Ecologi to offset their footprint.
Their bars are plastic-free, which gives them a strong starting point! One of their shampoo bars has just 8% of the carbon footprint of the equivalent liquid product.
They are powered by 100% renewable energy.
They invest in a tree planting initiative with Ecologi and also work with them to invest in carbon projects that help offset 120% of their emissions, making them climate positive. They pay to draw carbon emissions out of the atmosphere that they have not produced.
Our beauty products are free from Parabens, Petrochemicals, Mineral Oils, Phthalates, SLS, Pesticides and all other nasty chemicals.
