In 1957, bromelain was introduced as a therapeutic compound when Heinicke found it in high concentrations in pineapple stems. Bromelain is one of a group of sulphur-containing proteolytic enzymes (enzymes capable of digesting protein). Bromelain is known to help maintain normal inflammatory responses and may help keep your upper respiratory tract healthy.
