In recent years, collagen has become a buzzword across social media and the press due to its claimed benefits for the skin. However, this protein does much more than support skin elasticity.

What is collagen?

Collagen is a key structural protein your body produces. It plays a vital role in the structure and function of your skin, cartilage, bones and connective tissue, essentially standing as the building blocks of the human body. Choose from bone broth, bovine collagen, gelatine, marine collagen and vegan collagen.

What does collagen do?

An integral component of your body's organs, connective tissues, skin and bones, collagen offers important structural support, essential for your body's health. Because of this, low collagen levels can lead to joint problems and skin elasticity loss.

What foods are high in collagen?

Since collagen is found in the skin, bones, tendons and ligaments of animals, that's where the richest sources of collagen lie, so it makes sense to eat them if you're looking for a diet high in that particular protein.

You will find the most meat and derivatives, such as fish, poultry, red meat, bone broth and gelatin. However, foods such as eggs, dairy products, legumes and soy also offer a fairly high collagen content.

What is marine collagen?

Marine collagen is a type of collagen protein extracted from fish and other sea-dwelling animals' skin, bone and scales. It offers the same benefits as traditional bovine collagen but can often come from more responsible sources.
